A group of Metro Denver nonprofit organizations working on building inclusiveness in the nonprofit sector – the Inclusiveness Collaborative – have defined inclusive organizations as:
“Having and actively working toward a diverse board and staff due to valuing members' unique contributions; developing programs and services based on clients’ stated needs and priorities; and creating opportunities to undertake an ongoing personal and professional transformation.
We believe that organizations seeking to become inclusive know that it is integral to all parts of the organization, that they will enact policies reflecting this commitment, that they will provide a safe environment for those who have the courage to challenge current practices, be willing to offer both time and resources, create a plan with measurable goals and accountability, and have an engaged CEO and, ideally, Board of Directors.”
