2022 Meetings and Discussions

Please use this form to RSVP in advance of each meeting.
COFIE meetings are led by Dr. Dwinita Mosby Tyler, Chief Catalyst and Founder of The Equity Project, LLC  – an organization designed to support organizations and communities in building diversity, equity and inclusion strategies. She is the former Senior Vice President and Chief Inclusion Officer for Children’s Hospital Colorado – the first African American woman to hold that position in the organization’s 100+ year history. She is also the former Executive Director of the Office of Human Resources for the City and County of Denver – the first African American woman to hold that position in the 63+ year history of the agency. Dr. Mosby Tyler, a consultant accredited by the Georgetown University National Center for Cultural Competence, is nationally recognized for her equity work with non-profit, community, government and for-profit organizations. She is the author of White People Really Like Salad and TEDx Speaker for What if White People Led the Charge to End Racism? And here are a few of her thoughts on chipping away at inequity.

2022 Meetings: All meetings will be virtual unless stated otherwise below.

  • Thursday, January 13 from 9am - 11am via Zoom
    • Healing justice and restorative practices. We do hard work that requires fortitude and spirit. These internal resources can be easily depleted unless we prioritize self-care and joy. Healing justice integrates meditation, dance, and other restorative practices into social justice work so we not only take care of the community but ourselves. How can we bring these practices into our daily lives? Are there lessons to apply to how philanthropy shows up for its communities? RSVP here!

  • Thursday, February 3 from 9am - 11am via Zoom
    • The Toxic Workplace Part II. In 2021, COFIE came together to discuss how to identify and assess toxicity in your workplace, and how to determine whether to stay and help guide your organization toward true equity, or when to move to a more healthy environment for your own personal care. Join us for part II as we expand the conversation to include racial battle fatigue, what it is, what causes it and symptoms, and how to have difficult conversations as a person from a non-dominant community working with the dominant culture and more. RSVP here!

  • Thursday, March 3 from 9am - 11am via Zoom
    • Gathering for BIPOC members of COFIE. As part of COFIE work to promote equity in the philanthropic sector, we make space specifically for our BIPOC members to have room to discuss the issues that most impact them. Dr. Dwinita will facilitate this discussion about strategizing how to interrupt anti-Black racism in our lives and at work. What does it take to be a co-conspirator to each other as BIPOC? How can we center the voices of Black and Indigenous folks and FOLLOW their lead in movement spaces including in philanthropy that supports movement work? Also what the f*#k with the anti-Asian violence all over the place? Where is the action around this? RSVP here!

"Valuing and protecting spaces for people of color (PoC) is not just a kind thing that white people can do to help us feel better; supporting these spaces is crucial to the resistance of oppression. When people of color are together, there can be healing. We can reclaim parts of ourselves that have been repressed. We can redefine ourselves and support one another in embracing who we are." - The Arrow

  • Thursday, March 24 from 9:30am - 10am via Zoom
    • New member orientation. New members to COFIE will join the COFIE Steering Committee to learn about COFIE's mission, history, programming and membership.

  • Wednesday, April 6 from 9am - 11am via Zoom
    • COFIE and EPIP Colorado are partnering to host a conversation on reparations. In order to focus on equity, it is important for all of us to be thinking about the case for reparations, to amend the mistakes of our past, and look toward the inequities of wealth in the United States. The conversation will feature Niyankor Ajuaj of Soul 2 Soul Sisters, Lotte Lieb Dula of Reparations4Slavery, and Sheena Brown of Liberated Capital's #Case4Reparations Initiative. We're excited to partner with them to discuss all things related to reparations, including the need for reparations, reparations in government, and reparations in philanthropy. Register here. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the event.

  • Wednesday, May 4 from 9am - 11am via Zoom
    • Structuring Leadership: Alternative Models for Distributing Power and Decision-Making. Many organizations have been examining and questioning traditional, hierarchical leadership structures and are exploring new alternative models and decision-making structures. Join COFIE for a discussion about emerging shared and distributed leadership models that can enable organizations to meet the demands of their mission, increase impact and develop healthier work environments. RSVP here!

  • Thursday, July 7 from 9am - 11am via Zoom
    • Organizational Equity Audits. Where should an organization start their DEI journey? Consider an audit of organizational equity - which is an organization’s internal distribution of power and resources - and whether that distribution leads to equitable outcomes and growth opportunities for employees and stakeholders. Join COFIE to learn about qualitative and quantitative equity audits and their importance as a tool in DEI initiatives for organizations and their leaders. RSVP here!

  • Thursday, August 4 from 9am - 11am via Zoom
    • Equity and Impact Investing. As impact investing gains momentum and more foundations engage in mission- and program-related investments, what questions need to be asked and what processes need to be in place to make sure foundations are not contributing to or perpetuating inequities through the impact investing process. RSVP here!

  • Thursday, September 1 from 9am - 11am

    • Conflict Intervention, Resolution and Transformation. Have you perfected how you handle conflict in your life and workplace? We haven’t either. Conflict is inevitable and moreover, the current state of affairs can or has led to more conflict and tension in the workplace. How can we address these conflicts in a generative and direct way that allows us to bring our authentic selves to the conversation and also recognizes the larger cultural systems that may be at play? Join COFIE as we explore various practices for conflict intervention and resolution that can help lead to transformation in the workplace and the way you handle conflict. RSVP here!

  • Thursday, October 13 from 9:30am - 10am via Zoom
    • New member orientation. New members to COFIE will join the COFIE Steering Committee to learn about COFIE's mission, history, programming and membership.

  • Thursday, November 3 from 9am - 11am via Zoom
    • Equitable Evaluation. As many foundations work to promote Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, one area that is often overlooked is the foundation’s evaluation practices. Traditional evaluation practices have been complicit in perpetuating inequities by utilizing the dominant culture’s definitions, expectations and values to the detriment of others. Equitable Evaluation is the practice and approach by which all aspects of evaluation are approached with an equity lens. Join COFIE as we unpack the principles underlying the equitable evaluation framework and how this practice is fundamental to any foundation’s work to advance equity in their grantmaking. RSVP here!
